Welcome to the newly revamped Plasmaworks web site! This marks the 5th major revision since 1995. Let's take a look back:
| 1995 - Plasmaworks is essentially a small collection of hobbyist game programmers. We started off with a simple HTML page with some centered images and some horizontal rules. Who knew what the web could do, right? |

Pretty crappy, actually!
|
| 1997 (approximate) - We switched to a table-based approach with lots of beveled buttons and a Java applet to animate the menu. |

Looked pretty good on
an 800x600 screen!
|
| 2002 - Switched to familiar blue gradient background with more of a "newsfeed" layout and custom-rendered section headers (man updating those got old quick) and JavaScript-heavy client-side rendering. I still didn't quite know about CSS at the time. |

I still like the open,
"floating" layout.
|
| 2008 - After years of quietly working on Slag and Plasmacore, we needed a more modern and professional site. We decided to try one of these new-fangled CMS systems that were getting popular. With no CMS experience I looked at Drupal first, but I couldn't quite figure out how to get started. I then looked at Joomla and it seemed much easier to get into. I went with Joomla and used a heavily-modified "BentoBox Light" from RocketTheme. |
A definite prevolution
of the current site.
|
| 2009 - Plasmaworks incorporates as a real business. We decide we need to host our own forums and blogs to at least slightly offset the total cost of some of our free software through ads and donations. I've heard it's kind of a pain to do with Joomla whereas it's built-in to Drupal. I take another look at Drupal and am very impressed - I'm sure they've made a lot of improvements with version 6 here, but this being my second CMS surely helped too. So we're running Drupal now with a heavily modified "Sky" theme. I really like it! |
You're looking at it! |
Content-wise, at the moment the site is almost a straight copy of the older one. I'll be adding and reorganizing in the weeks to come, and most importantly posting the public, free release of Plasmacore v2 for iPhone, Android, Mac, and PC!
